Nnnrrgh. Been doing AO3 work for about 12 hours now - we've been making some changes to try to alleviate the load on our database, and this required some fine-tuning, which still isn't quite done yet. We'll have a real news post out tomorrow, but we did add the long-awaited filtering by whether a work is complete or not, filtering by language on main pages, and sorting by the date things were actually posted, so that if you're stalking a fandom, you can see what the new backdated works are. We also fixed the dreaded 500 error that came up if you were the first person to download a file! And we finished transitioning all of our javascript over to jQuery, which was a pretty significant project. And a bunch of other things - there were 57 issues in this release. Go team!

In other news:

-Here is a fic about the Brotherhood of Mutants adopting a kitten. You're welcome.

-I am finally all caught up with Fringe again! Olivia is my favorite, forever and ever, amen. And I'm very happy that we get to keep Lincoln. Too sleepy to have any deeper thoughts.

What what

I've been reading Yuletide fic all day while it's blizzarding outside, so it's possible that my brain has warped and melted by this point and I am hallucinating the existence of an Old Spice Guy-Beowulf crossover story. If so, I wish you could have seen it, because it was brilliant.

Now, alas, to bed, where I'll probably have some sort of Yuletide-influenced dream about Emerson Cod, Anne Bronte, Abed from Community and Snow White drinking coffee together after battling zombies on a zeppelin. They'll probably all be speaking in iambic pentameter. In Latin. I'm looking forward to it.

<3 to all the authors for saving me from snowy Sunday tedium!

Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Equitable Agency - 16,000 words! Encyclopedia Brown! Awesomesauce! *flails a lot*

I always feel a little bit out of step with Yuletide. Like, I totally see why it's fun to do the mad dash of reading and reccing before the reveal, but I'm usually offline more around Christmas, and - that's a lot of fic! But then I haven't read very much, and the authors are revealed and all the recs slide off my flist and into oblivion, and even though, intellectually, I know that the stories are there all year, it winds up feeling like I've missed the boat and I end up having read maybe half a dozen of them.

That's not a complaint, it's just an accounting of yearly personal fail. *g*

But this year, ho ho, I have means, motive AND opportunity to do better, and thus:

Yikes, that's just the tip of the iceberg - must read more!

Also, for the record, I am clearly contributing to people's writerly angst by repeatedly opening bunches of Yuletide stories in tabs, going "asdkfjiglej, TOO MANY TABS," closing them all and then going back to read one by one. I've hit a bunch of stories five or six times. SORRY.
