I kind of feel like I've been eaten by Yuletide even though I'm not writing for it. (The AO3 coders and testers are, as you might imagine, working feverishly to get everything done and deployed ASAP. Please direct offerings of caffeinated beverages to your local tester.)

Interesting article about Vimeo being sued by EMI for the use of copyrighted music in videos on the site:

...EMI's actual concern is with all the full-song verbatim audio available on Vimeo. EMI isn't going after mash-ups, and is careful to say that it is "not seeking to stifle creativity or preclude members of the public form creating original, lawful audiovisual works." But it does want to stop usage of "the entire musical work deliberately and carefully synchronized into the video."

Also: The Horrible Fanon Childhood Showdown. On the one hand, I'm not familiar with the fanon for most of those fandoms. On the other hand - how can Reboot!Kirk possibly not win that one in a landslide? He's got a dead father, a vaguely-semi-canon wicked stepfather and absentee mother (those characterizations being taken from the novelization, as far as I can tell), he drove a car off a cliff for reasons not explained on film and he may or may not have survived a horrible genocidal tragedy (inherited from TOS). You don't even need to have read any reboot fic to figure out what fans do with that sort of material. He'd be pretty far down my list for worst canon childhood, but for fanon, he's hard to beat. Even if you're a Winchester.

(Query: Did DiNozzo acquire canonical childhood trauma somewhere along the line? I don't remember him having any, and now I'm curious. Granted, McKay's childhood trauma was in feeling bad that he wasn't a musical prodigy, as far as I recall...)
