Supernatural
Because really, if one of your old friends was possessed, and you had the demon trapped, knew exorcism rituals off by heart, and weren't in any particular hurry, why wouldn't you kill him rather than, oh, saving his life?
On the flip side, Crowley is lots of fun.
Plotwise, I'm thinking:
The Winchester Track Record
Season 1
Goal: to find their father and to find out what killed their mom and Jessica.
Resolution: they find their father; he gets possessed by the YED, he tortures Dean, Sam has to shoot him, and then the demon hits them with a truck and John winds up dead.
Season 2
Goal: Dean wants to save Sam's life and keep him from going evil.
Resolution: Sam dies and Dean only saves him by selling his soul, which sets Sam on an even darker path than he was on before.
Season 3
Goal: to keep Dean from going to hell.
Resolution: Dean goes to hell.
Season 4
Goal: to stop Lucifer from rising.
Resolution: Oops?
Season 4
Goal: to not get possessed by Lucifer and Michael.
Resolution: ?
Not only are they deeply futile when it comes to their long-term goals, they actually get worse every year. I'll be fairly unsurprised if the answer to "how do we stop the apocalypse without saying yes?" is "we don't". Although I do expect them to collect all four magic rings and send Lucifer back to jail.
