Ten things you may or may not want to know about me

1. I've been online/in fandom a lot longer than I've had a personal journal, and I've hopped from usenet and aol boards to yahoo groups and ezboards to blogs and livejournal. Consequently, I'm not very sentimental about platforms and am pretty willing to follow fellow fans wherever they may roam. There are things I think are cool about Dreamwidth, though, so I hope it does well.

2. Anything I post publicly is free to be read, linked, and/or commented on by anyone on the internet. I don't use any sort of tools to keep track of who's reading my posts, and IP-logging is always off. I've never had to ban someone from my journal, and it would take a lot for me to do that (although you can never say never, unfortunately). Conversely, I tend to assume that when other people post things publicly, they don't mind random people reading them, and I find it a little disorienting when that's not the case.

(Tools like lj-toys tend to freak me out a little, if only because it would drive me crazy to try to parse other people's behavior like that. I spend a lot of long boring phone calls going "uh-huh" *click link* "uh-huh" *click link* "uh-huh" *click link* - god knows what that looks like to anyone seeking meaningful trends.)

3. I don't have a problem simultaneously loving and critiquing a tv show (or other fannish source text), although I try to avoid stepping on other people's squeeful moods. I watch a lot of silly scifi/fantasy shows, and I know they're silly shows, and as long as they're entertaining and not horribly offensive, I mostly don't care. *clutches Dark Angel dvds*

4. I have a serious weakness for female superheroes, monster-hunters, cops, soldiers, FBI agents, etc. - all sorts of women who kick ass both literally and metaphorically. Which doesn't mean I don't also like women who only kick metaphorical ass, because I do. In general, if you want to commiserate over how much you hate any given actress/female character, I am probably not your ideal audience.

5. I am often a big fan of shmoopy, populist het pairings: Mulder/Scully, Buffy/Spike, Doctor/Rose, John/Aeryn, Josh/Donna, etc. If there's a ship in your fandom that's derided as being the province of witless teenage girls, I'm probably all over it. I'm just not very cool; I've had years to come to terms with this.

(Not that I think those het pairings or het pairings in general are shmoopy, just dabbling in stereotypes for a moment.)

6. I am very fond of het, but I am also very fond of slash and gen. What I'm interested in tends to vary by fandom - mostly it's just a matter of following whatever storylines happen to catch my attention off the screen/page and onto the internet.

7. I'm doing some coding work for the Archive of Our Own. I tend to post about it here periodically because it's something I spend a lot of time on and am interested in; if you have official questions about the archive or the OTW, your best bet is to go through official channels, but if you have unofficial questions, I'm happy to answer whatever I can! Also, to me, the archive is an archive - hopefully it'll be a useful tool, but it doesn't bother me if other people think it's not for them or have critiques of it or the OTW. Diverse opinions are good, diverse sites are good, and we all just try to do the best we can.

8. Generally speaking, I don't mind it when people disagree with me about things - it keeps the blood flowing and the neurons firing. I've been known to pause mid-debate and start arguing with myself from time to time; I suspect it may not actually be all that endearing in practice.

9. I'm pretty easygoing, hard to offend and constitutionally incapable of holding a grudge, so if you're ever wondering if I'm upset by something or angry at someone, the answer is almost always no.

10. I'm kind of a crappy communicator. I'm forever resolving to keep up with people better, leave more feedback, etc., but sometimes it just gets away from me. New journal = new chance to do better, though, right?

Hahahaha! Yep, that's me in a nutshell.

Me too. Basically anytime I'm commenting a lot is when I force myself to be more active. Oh, except when I'm in the grips of some fannish excitement or another, but that doesn't happen so much right now.

Hahahahaha. I love this. So much. I'm right there with you, sister. With *checks* every pairing you specifically mentioned, too. Awesome. :-)
