Vividcon!
Had a great weekend - yay! Got home without incident - yay! Got a cold - less yay, but so it goes.
-I roomed with
shinetheway and
vidderkidder and it was awesome to meet them! *waves*
-The newbie party and ice cream social on Thursday were both fun. The newbie party was a great idea - last year I think I just went to bed early on Thursday night because I didn't really know what was going on. But this year there were nice people, great vids and mysterious blue alcohol. :) Later was registration and then a trek to Margie's to get ice cream. And that was some epic ice cream - we got a $50 sundae that was served in a punch bowl and had about a foot of whipped cream on top. It didn't get finished, but not for lack of trying. By the end, there was ice cream on the people, the table, the water glasses and probably the walls.
-Club Vivid was awesome, although I only really watched the first five or so vids. It just sort of blows my mind that there are 46 Club Vivid premieres on the dvd set. Also, I didn't intend to be as not-dressed-up as I was - I had a packing snafu and only realized I'd left stuff hanging in my closet once I was on my way. I was way impressed by other people's outfits, though! I resolve to do better if I'm there again.
-Speaking of the dvd set, it's a little thing, but man, the discs are just so *pretty*. And the con in general is so impressively well-run. *shakes pom-poms*
-I was really psyched that there were Leverage and Chuck vids. \o/ And from my subjective viewer POV, it felt like most of the vids in most of the shows were to sources I'd either seen or was familiar enough with to be able to follow easily, without it feeling like there was any one fandom that really dominated. Actually, I was curious about how many from various fandoms there were, so I flipped through the program and did a rough count (premieres in parentheses; doesn't include multifandom vids):
20 (12) - Supernatural
14 (9) - Buffyverse
12 (3) - Star Trek universe
11 (4) - Merlin
10 (0) - Stargate universe
8 (5) - Terminator universe
8 (4) - BSG
7 (3) - Doctor Who/Torchwood
6 (2) - Firefly/Serenity
It didn't actually feel like there was that much Supernatural, but I guess S4 inspired people. And/or inspired them to mock. And Terminator should perhaps get double points for
sweetestdrain's (fantastic) epic challenge vid.
-I dig vid reviews. I could listen to people analyze vids for hours. More than three hours, even! Every time I was tempted to raise my hand, someone else said what I was thinking, but I suppose that's better than speaking up and having everyone go "bzuh?" *g*
-I went to the Star Trek party briefly on Saturday and watched Amok Time with other fans. Good times!
-Totally random, but people were playing the Club Vivid dvd in the con suite on Saturday or Sunday and there was this crack-ish William Shatner thing onscreen...? (If it played at Club Vivid, I was out of the room.) My curiosity was piqued and Google was my friend, so: Captain Kirk Is Climbing a Mountain. Enjoy. ;)
