Open Doors, Writercon

It's weird to think of Geocities closing; I had more than one site there back in the day (god, for all I know, I still do), and it was a lot of people's first introduction to html and site-building. If you have a fic site there (even if the fic makes you wince now that you're older and wiser and a much better writer!), seriously consider backing it up somewhere else. If you don't have the time/resources/energy and would like some help, or know someone who'd like some help, you can contact the OTW's Open Doors project. Open Doors is specifically meant for these kinds of situations: a website is going away and you don't have another one, or you don't have the time/money to continue supporting an existing site, and you want to pass on the hosting/coding/maintenance responsibilities to someone else so the fic (and other fanworks) don't just vanish into the ether. I imagine there will probably be more posts on [community profile] otw_news about this over the next few months, but you can contact them anytime, about any kind of site.

Cool con pimping: If you like hanging out with other fans talking fic, check out [livejournal.com profile] writercon, which will be going on July 31-August 2 in Minneapolis and is run by some awesome folks. It started out very Jossverse-oriented, but is now multifandom; you can read the official description here.
