Playing with the new toy

I made some tweaks to Zesty (dividers, narrower columns, American dates - that seemed to be hard-coded?), and I kinda like it, although I may or may not jump ship when more styles are available. There are actually some upsides to the collapsed view option on the reading page - when you have to expand each post manually, it's easier to focus on reading each one without getting distracted by the others.

In the idle curiosity department: I wonder if there's any sort of unofficial etiquette for creating communities here - is it in bad taste to grab a comm name that's established on LJ? I imagine most people would hesitate to grab a username they know someone else in fandom actively uses, but I wonder how far that courtesy extends. (Not that I'd be volunteering to moderate communities of any sort, because I really wouldn't.)

And god, I'm already spoiled by the fact that comments have a preview button here.

I know, right? The in-line preview button makes me SO HAPPY! And I'd hesitate to grab the comm names, so I'm guessing etiquette may extend that far?

I modded Zesty into a typographic layout and then they up and switched the classes on me! *shakes fist*

Wrt nabbing community names, I nabbed two that exist on LJ but are really broad/obvious, so I can't really feel that the owners there would feel a sense of violation at me taking them: knitting and sfbayarea. If it were a smaller, more focussed community, I'd probably either come up with a new name, or check in with the LJ owners first.

*clings to preview button* And yeah, it may just depend on what kind of comm it is - it'd be kind of a deliberate statement if you started your own metafandom, whereas for more general discussion groups, there's probably less of a sense of particular ownership.

That makes sense! For really big/general LJ communities, the mods are probably busy enough not to *want* to pull double-duty on multiple journaling services, too.

I've re-created V_V_V and I'm sitting on vidding. Vidding got taken on IJ as a Het-only vidding comm, and I don't want to see that happen here. I'm not actually a mod of LJ's vidding but I emailed the mods to let them know what I did, and why, and they're cool with it.
